Artist Statement:
Who am I?
I am someone who enjoys learning and experiencing new things. I am most happy when the weather is warm and there are beautiful things for me to see, hear, smell, taste, touch. I love to learn and teach things I have learned and to help others whenever they need it. As a kid, I loved to color and draw, but I didn’t think I was very good at art - probably because I was judging myself by the worlds standards. As an adult, I have been learning to just make art without worrying about what anyone else may think of it. Now I just play with different mediums and tools until it turns into something I enjoy and I hope that other people will enjoy it too.
What captivates me? What am I trying to capture?
I want to create art that will evoke a feeling from the observer. Most of the time, I like the idea of evoking peace, calm, beauty, tranquility. But I would also love to evoke, laughter, wonder or even sadness or anguish. I’m not really interested in evoking horror or disgust. I like it when the observer begins to imagine themselves in the scene or it reminds them of a happy time in their life. I think it would be especially powerful if they could be brought to tears (of joy or sadness). When I paint people or pets, I want to capture the essence of the subject. I want the observer to easily recognize the subject. I like to paint both realistic and abstract pieces.
I am exploring different mediums and learning new techniques. I began painting with Acrylics and have tried my hand at watercolor, gouache, ink pens, colored pencil and chalk pencil. Most recently, I have begun learning to paint in Oil and have found that I love it!
