Artist Statement:
I am a painter who works in encaustic and cold wax mixed media, creating abstract landscapes inspired by my deep passion for the essence of nature – its geometry, patterns, colors and textures. Ever since childhood, nature has been my sanctuary where I catch my breath and meditate on the spiritual bond I experience when I’m totally immersed in its beauty. It is this deep personal connection and the childlike wonder of our natural world that I wish to share with others as motivation to cherish and preserve the environment that I hold so dear to my heart.
Encaustic is a combination of beeswax, damar resin, and pigment. I use handmade paint to control its opacity and fluidity. I apply molten encaustic paint to wood panel and fuse with a blowtorch. My paintings are known for their vivid color, dramatic texture, and glowing luminosity.
I also use cold wax medium mixed with oils and acrylic paints. Other mixed media in my paintings include India inks, wax pencil, graphite, pastels, oil stick, and pigmented shellac.
My studio is located in Purcellville, Va. where I teach beginning encaustic and cold wax workshops.
My work is also exhibited at Touchstone Gallery in Washington DC.
