Artist Statement:
I am an accomplished fine artist and a very passionate one. I work on my craft virtually full-time and am also an ardent student of art history. While I have only been painting for a decade I have made excellent progress through hard work and study in classes and workshops. I have also been blessed with the guidance and support of several outstanding tutors and mentors. Over the years I have been juried into many art shows and was recently designated a signature member of the Virginia Watercolor Society.
I have a strong interest in art history and my own work has been influenced by several artists, most prominently Cezanne, Matisse, Picasso, Kandinsky, Klee, Calder, Delaunay, Stella and other post WWI artists. I actively support the arts through membership in MOMA, the MET, the Art Institute, the Philipps Gallery and others. I am also a member of the Loudoun Sketch Club, McLean Art Society and other professional organizations.
Like many artists I began my career painting in watercolors in a representational style and have painted extensively en plein air. More recently, my painting has evolved and I am becoming more of a modern expressionist artist owing to the influence of the aforementioned artists. I now paint in acrylics, and watercolor on paper and canvas.
My aim as an artist is to engage the viewer in a fulfilling art experience that opens their eyes to the beauty of art and generates positive feelings towards art.
