Artist Statement:
Biography
After working for over 37 years as a dentist in private practice, I retired and rediscovered my love for art. I am also an Air Force veteran. I have been interested in art as long as I can remember, and it always has been my passion. My artistic skills in dentistry helped me to continue with my interest in painting. Enthusiasm in photography has also fueled my painting skills. Since last year, I have taken a total of 80 hours of painting classes and workshops from different teachers at the Art School of Great Falls, VA. My art is inspired by my surroundings and the beauty of nature. I work primarily in oil on canvas, using a combination of thick impasto and delicate grazes to create depth and luminosity of my work. As I paint, I evoke my inner thinking or vibration and transfer that image on the canvas. I love to display the interplay of form, light, texture, patterns and of course color which tells a story. I try to bring emotions on canvas. When a viewer of my art experiences an emotional connection, I feel fulfilled as an artist. I learn from and am influenced by several community artists and friends. On Wednesday mornings, I currently mentor residents of Birchwood Community Center painting classes.
